Helping to meet the physical, material, social and spiritual needs in Springfield and beyond

Food Pantry

The Christ Church Food Pantry has partnered with Covenant Presbyterian Church and together host a pantry the third Wednesday of each month from 11 am until 2pm. The pantry is funded solely by contributions. Most of the items distributed by our pantry are obtained through Second Harvest Food Bank of Clark, Champaign and Logan County and are either free or cost very little, helping keep our total expenses down. The Food Pantry has many volunteer opportunities. The second Wednesday of each month starting at 9 am until about 10:15am we need volunteers to help unload a few trucks and take plastic off the flats. The third Wednesday of each month starting at 9 am until 2 pm there are various jobs to volunteer for including: interviewing clients, computer entry, hostess, bagging groceries, breaking down cardboard, making double bags, and helping clients take food to vehicle. We strive to meet the needs of our clients and continue to encourage others to use our available resources.

Shawnee Place Apartments

The Shawnee Place Apartments, the low income housing for seniors owned by Episcopal Retirement Homes. Christ Church has bible study on Tuesday nights and host quarterly Birthday parties. The Birthday parties include a home cooked meal with all of the trimmings and is served to around 60 guests. In addition, our congregation provided $25 gift cards for each of the residents as holiday gifts in December. As we continue to explore ways to interact with the residents, we will welcome any and all volunteers.
